Instructor Recertification

Recertification is required every two years, based on the month and year of your last certification. You have the entire month of your certification's expiration to complete the recertification requirements. Please be aware that if the expiration month passes, you will be considered out of compliance and will need to restart the initial instructor process. While there are specific contingency procedures, those are handled on a case-by-case basis with the Instructor, Training Center Coordinator, and the AHA.

To recertify, please ensure you meet the following requirements:

  • Teach a minimum of four classes in the specific discipline listed on your instructor card within the two-year certification period.
  • Each qualifying class must have at least three participants.
  • Submit a new AHA Instructor Application & Agreement form to the Training Center Coordinator. Please contact the training center to obtain the most current version of these documents, as using previously saved forms is not permitted.
  • In addition to teaching the required classes, you can also recertify by having a recertification conference with your Training Center Coordinator, assisting in one of our scheduled classes, or attending one of our Instructor Classes.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to the training center if you have any questions about the recertification process or need to obtain the necessary documents.
